CELTIC FROST's Origin on the Rise and Fall of Civilizations

"We wanted to avoid a Metal cliche name. But we wanted it to be a synonym for the apocalypse. So we choose "Celtic" to represent human civilization and we used "Frost" as a symbol of death and standstill. Moreover, the term "Frost" has an added significance. After the winter, after the frost, there will always be a new spring, and life blossoms again. To us it reflected very much the coming and going of the different human civilizations on this planet."

Taken from CELTIC FROST's "Innocence and Wrath" Compilation liner notes.
