German Archaeological Research in Hellas 1933 - 1945

BLOG'S COMMENT : An intresting lecture that took place in Athens at 16th of December 2021. Organized by ASCSA (American School of Classical Studies at Athens). The main speaker which is an archeologist also has done a really in-depth and very informative work on the activities of SS AHNENERBE in Hellas during 1933-1944. Ofcourse do not expect any glorification of the National Socialist studies. But the video is really intresting as it contains a lot of info about the era and the excavations of the German Archeologists in Hellas.

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story
by Thilo Scheller

A woodcutter who lived alone in his hut deep in the forest had eaten his last piece of bread and the fire in his hearth had gone out, so he was hungry and cold.

He was forced to go out even though it was dark and the paths were snow-covered. Dark clouds hung down to the tops of the fir trees.

At the same time, a solder was afoot in the forest. He was returning from the war. Bloody images of war were still before his eyes and the noise of battle rang in his ears. For years, he had slept outdoors on the naked earth.

And on the same evening, a king had gone out hunting. Driven by hunting fervor, he had followed a doe and lost sight of his companions. He became lost in the confusing mists of the forest. All his blowing of the hunting horn was in vain, for the mist swallowed every sound. As the forest grew thicker and thicker, he got off his horse and trudged through the snow, leading his horse with the reins, searching for a way back to his castle.
At a crossing, the three men met, the woodcutter, the soldier, and the king, and asked each other which way to go, but none could give an answer.

The woodcutter was silent, the soldier cursed fearfully, and the king was proud and superior. None trusted the others to know the way; they could only agree that this was the darkest night and the worst weather in the world. The woodcutter went ahead, and the other two followed in his steps.

Soon they stood before a small hut with bright windows, and they heard soft singing. The woodcutter forgot his hunger, the soldier thought no longer of noise and war, and the heart of the king grew soft.

Then the clouds parted, and the stars shone clear and bright as guardians of the small hut.

As they opened the door, a mother sat by the oven, holding a child on her lap. She looked at the three men and nodded to them. They entered quickly and closed the door so that the child would not become cold.

They stood respectfully before the mother, who with a lovely smile looked on her child, and then greeted the three strangers.

The king thought she should stand up and bow to him. Instead, she turned to the woodcutter who had come near the oven to warm his hands.

“Light the lantern over there, and also take a piece of bread from the cupboard. I have more than enough light and warmth, for where is it lighter and warmer than where a little child has been born?”

The woodcutter followed her instructions. The child reached its little hand toward the light of the lantern, Then the woman saw the soldier, who was standing uncertainly. “Brave soldier, I thank you that you have stood watch for me and my child and for all the children of our people so that no enemy came over the border. You and your comrades are the protectors of the homeland, and the mothers and children thank you, most of all those who gave their lives!” The soldier's eyes shone as he put his large hand on the child’s head, and all the nights he had endured, all days of hunger, all the bloody battles, seemed small in the bright light of the baby’s eyes.

Only now the woman saw the king, who had waited in displeasure to the side, because he thought he should have been the first. “We all must wait. In this little boy, my waiting found its fulfillment. You, too, my king, have had to wait for this child. Children are your kingdom’s greatest treasure. What good are all the lands and treasures of the world, all its forests and fields, if there were no children who would grow up to take up the plow, to bake bread, to swing axes in the forest, to cut timber for huts and houses and halls, to hammer swords on the anvil to use against your kingdom's enemies, if there were no children who would become the mothers whose wombs would give your kingdom a future!”

The three men gazed with respect on the baby, for the mother’s words had touched their hearts. The woodcutter gave the baby a sprig of fir, the solder whistled him a song, and the king took the golden chain from his neck and gave it to the mother, then bowed before the child.

Now the three men knew which way to go and they left cheerfully. The woodcutter led the way with the lantern and the soldier whistled one song after the other. The king, leading his horse with the reins once more, felt the bands that had held his heart break, the bands that had kept him from knowing the heart of his people.

As they had to go their separate ways, they gave each other their hands. No longer were they strangers, the woodcutter, the soldier, and the king.

And golden stars illuminated each treetop, for it was Christmas Eve.

The West's Final Hours Are Approaching

Blog's Comment: I dont know if this is a part of the channel's marketing trick or something like that. If not, then he just say loudly what we all know since decades now. And this goes pretty much for all Western countries. The West's final hour is approaching and this will be our requiem or a resurgence? Time shall tell....

"As I do for the first time in my 62 years, my biggest worry is for my country. The truth is, I’m not a liberal or a conservative. I’m an institutionalist. I believe in this place. And in my love of my country, I yield to no one. But the darkness on the edge of town has spread to the main roads and highways and neighborhoods. It is now at the local bar, and the bowling alley, the school board, and the grocery store. And it must be acknowledged and answered for. Grown men and women who swore an oath to our Constitution, elected by their constituents, possessing the kinds of college degrees I could only dream of, have decided to join the mob and become something they are not while hoping we somehow forget who they were. They’ve decided to burn it all down with us inside. That should scare you to no end as much as it scares an aging volunteer fireman."

About The Forest And Its Importance PART II (Final)

OLD GROWTH FORESTS FIRMLY FIXED IN OUR MIND'S EYE

 By

Gylve Fenriz Nagell

Pretty well all of Norway's prductive forest area is populated by trees with a biological age equivalent to that of a snot-nosed kid - or at best a teenybopper! Quite evidently something is amiss.

 WOODLAND FAIRY TALE

Let us draw close to the heart of the matter; even going as far as to claim that the very few remaining patches of virgin forest are pricelss "footprints" that could lead the way to a deeper understanding of the forest's essence, both with regards to how a natural forest ecosystem actually works, and how our identity and culture is affected by old growth forest. After all,  Asbjornsen and Moe's folk tales, not to metnion Kittelsen's illustrations, have fixed old growth forest firmly in our mind's eye.
Nobody wants to hear a fairy tale entitled "The lad who stripped the forest together with the troll", stripping the forest", thank you very much. Sad to say, but unfortunately absolutely true, the real world has produced something far worse than either the lad or the troll choping down those old bewhiskered spruces - namely, over-enthusiastic and hyper-efficient foresters.

THE GIANTS WERE THE FIRST TO GO

Since the time of Kittelsen, forests have been ransacked in the search for mature and broad-girth trees. In the first waves of exploitation it was largest and most valuable giants that were felled. Even today, hidden deep in the wilderness and inaccessible by road, relics from these giants can still be found as stumps. We tremble at the thought of the efforst expended in days of yore to fell and drag out this heavy timber from the woods. A very strong whop must have been used as driving force. Then as now, force and motivation was present in the form of strong demand and high prices.
The English, for example, bough huge quantities of timber for the rebulding of London following the Great Fire of 1666. As England was accumulating vast riches from her colonies at that time, Norway's old growth forest was one of the first to feel the relentless pressure of international market forces.

FORESTS IN WRETCHED CONDITION

Repeated waves of selective felling aimed at the largest trees resulted in ever decreasing dimensions and ages of the remaining trees. Our forests were in a wretched state at the beginning of the last century due to reforestation. Legendary foresters such as Agnar Barth despaired of the situation. After the middle of the 20th century Norway's forests were converted to present-day forest stand replacing management. These days our forests are characterized by stands of trees that are homogeneous in terms of species, age and size. Look out from the window next time you fly to or from Gardermoen and you will clearly see how the stand replacing management has transformed the forest landscape into a patchwork quilt of felled areas and patches of completely identical trees in a homogeneous stand. The variations you see in the colour and structure of the patches reflect the tree species and the age of the stand.

UNIFORMED SCHOOL KIDS STANDING IN A ROW

Mechanisation accompanied the rapid introduction of forest stand management across the board. Youthful vitality - trees standing rigidly to attention in seried ranks - characterises our present day forests, which you can almost hear growing. Manna from heaven in the form of nitrogen and high concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere provide an added boost to the rate of growth. At the moment our forests are producing more timber than is being felled, and the number of trees is greater now than at any time since forest valuation began in 1919. Fine and dandy, our forests deliver the srvices we want and are reputed, of course, to be entirely "sustainable." Our forests also expected somehow to save us from unpleasant cutbacks in out fossil-fuel fired welfare state by shying away from our own CO2 emission.
Nevertheless, and this is the crucial issue, the majority of trees in today's forest are very young and small in relation to natural age and size. Scarcely half our forest area has trees that are less than sixty yars old, and the majority of trees here are under 20 cm in diameter. Proper old growth forest is conspicuous by its absence. A pathetic one per cent of the productive forest area vhas trees that are more than 160 years old. With the knowledge that a spruce tree can be 500 years old in Norway, and that a pine tree can be nearly twoice as old, it is an undeniable fact that out productive forest area is populated by trees with a biological age equivalent to that of asnot-nosed kid - or at best a teenybopper. Equally undeniable is the fact that there is precarious shortage of trees that have reached their natural predetermined age, size and demise.

ANCIENT TREES DESERVE RESPECT

Do we really need large and old trees that are more or less in a state of decay? From the biological point of view the answer is a resounding "Yes". As it happens, there is plenty of documentation showing that such dying trees are the habitat of a great number of species, which in turn comprise part of the biological diversity. As it has been decreed at the highest level that the loss of biological diversity in Norway has been halted by 2010, it is self evident that we have to a large, old and where the trees should be located in order to preserve the biological diversity, is something we know previous little about. But some things we do know: the longer a tree is allowed to live and the taller it grows, the greater the number of species that will find their way to, and establish themselves in, the tree. Similarly, there will be a positive correlation between  biodiversity, the tree's age and the tree's size. This is fundamental explanation why old trees are especially important as bearers of biological diversity, the tree`s age and the tree's size. This is a fundamental explanation why old trees are especially important as bearers of biological diversity. The bark of a tree changes in character when the tree ages, and in time the bark become highly suitable asa habitat for a multitude of creatures. One can find myruad small creeping things and lichens on the bark of old spruce trees. Here we find a good example of a partially unknown biodiversity that society has commited itself to preserve. Goodness knows how much diversity is lost when tree felling is undertaken in forests containing 500-year-old spruce -  something that happened through a dastardly act that ended the life of the oldest spruce tree registered in Norway. For 507 years this tree managed to ward off every attack from merciless cold during the Litle Ice Age to the warmth of modern times before being chopped down. We sincerely hope that after 507 years'succesful struggle for survival in our harsh climate it ddid not meet its Waterlooby simply ending up as an advertising flyer or roll of toilet paper if it did really come to the worst , then it is damning evidence of a lack of reverence towards life forms that deserve more respect.

CULTURAL INSPIRATION

From a cultural prespective, large and dying trees play an important role by accentuating the fairy-tale forest's special atmosphere that is so evocatively portrayed in Kittelsen's art. In recent times this mood has been important as a source of inspiration for a cultural phenomenon that has no equal in Norwegian cultural history in terms of intrenational attention. We are refering ofcourse to "Norwegian Black Metal", which is more famous in the outside world than all of Norway's sports celebrities combined.

CIVILISED TREATMENT

Forestry has given a tremendous boost to our civilisation. Therefore it is only right and proper that, in return, we treat our remaining old growth forest in a civilised manner. Our tenacious and dying giants are of great importance in many and truly varied connections. It shouldn.t costs Norway very much preserve and utilise these gems for inspirational and research purposes. Research funds have already been granted by the Research Council of Norway, for which we are very grateful.

The Last Call to THE HORDES!

What follows here is a letter from Quorthon to the hordes (his suporters and fans worldwide). The exact date is unknown but probably this must be his final public words. I drew this conclusion because there he mentions the Nordland albums which were released in 2002 and 2003. Unfortunately Quorthon left the mortal plains in June of 2004. So the letter written in between these years.
Apart from that, its is also intresting because there Quorthon speak about his views on the media and the way he operates with Bathory in the music business.

The official Bathory.nu (that this letter is taken from) is down at the moment. I hope in future it will be online again and also the upcoming Bathory book to be released soon. This is the best way to honour the Quorthon and Bathory legacy. Far away from the dirty businessmen claws and their journalist minions

Personal letter from Quorthon of BATHORY

My dearest Horde!

The first thoughts that came to my mind when I first sat myself down to write this introducing letter for bathory.nu, is how very important the underground feel still is and how ever present that feel is in everything that BATHORY does.

Whether you call it Black, Death, Epic, Viking or Nordic, BATHORY has made a dent in the history of extreme metal. During the past two decades, a great deal of frontiers has been explored, boundaries were crossed and horizons broadened. New sounds and styles created, new ways to expand in the field of instrumentation and new ways to arrange extreme metal have been invented.

I take great pride in having been a vital part in that evolution. Extreme metal today is so much more than any of us could even have dreamed of twenty years ago. And you – the audience – are the ones that ultimately get the most out of all that in the end.

Back in the mid 90’s as we planned the release of an album entitled BLOOD ON ICE, it was felt a necessary move to try and explain the sometimes complicated story and many turns in the life-line of the BLOOD ON ICE-project. A decision was made to write a one thousand words long story that would bring almost every little detail up vital in telling the whole story of the BLOOD ON ICE-project, and to print all that in the BLOOD ON ICE-CD booklet. This story would also feature a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff, things that we deemed interesting to read not only to the die-hard BATHORY audience but also the public in general.

So much mystery, so many legends and strange stories circulated, that perhaps some details from behind-the-scene could help in bringing the making of the BATHORY-records into new light. Not the least the very primitive conditions we had to be content with during the 80’s.

Some of those early albums of BATHORY are still considered vital fundaments in the history of extreme metal, albums that influenced tons of acts and pleased enough people out there for BATHORY to have passed the 1.4 million mark in terms of sold units during the past two decades. It was felt that perhaps some behind-the-scenes stories would serve to increase people’s admiration for how we were still able to create those albums despite the many difficulties and makeshift conditions.

The base of the material that would eventually be released as the complete BLOOD ON ICE-saga, had also been recorded during these primitive makeshift conditions. Thus we thought it only appropriate to take the opportunity to shed the light on those circumstances during which at least four of our early albums had been recorded.

But the response to the behind-the-scene stories and details revealed, was nothing we could ever have expected. Tons of deeply hurt die-hard BATHORY fans would write me and use such hard words as “…sacrilege…” or “…traitors…”. And how the hell could I “…talk about BATHORY in such a disrespectful manner…” and who the hell did I think I was “…to have the right to write things like that and talk about BATHORY in such a way…” etc.

I realized then more than ever before that BATHORY was surrounded by the same sort of stuff only legends are made from. The element of mystery and suspense was still very important to a lot of die-hard BATHORY fans. We hadn’t been disrespectful or tactless – just heedless – in bringing out some behind-the-scenes details. I suppose people didn’t want to know how Quorthon of BATHORY would squeeze himself into this cleaning cabinet while doing the vocals for this track or be seated in the bathroom while recording the acoustic guitar on another track. It was the truth, but it didn’t suit the image that a lot people had of BATHORY or myself.

The irony is, at that exact moment I was toying with the idea of writing and publishing a BATHORY book. So finding out how the only people who would even have the slightest reason to buy and read a BATHORY book could react so emotionally to some behind-the-scenes stories revealed – and the pointlessness in writing that BATHORY book – was a bitter fact to swallow. I would nevertheless make notes along the road, notes that has come in handy today as the bathory.nu site goes active.

But it has been a thoughtful and eventful journey before the bathory.nu site materialized. And the story begins thus…

I always wanted BATHORY to keep an underground atmosphere and attitude in much of what we were doing. For a number of years – a long time ago – I didn’t want tons of BATHORY shirts and picture disc’s to flood the market, thus I was very reluctant to give my consent to the official BATHORY merchandise we are used to today. Until one day I realized there was a mismatch in the balance between demand and supply. A gap occurred, a gap that tons of bootleggers were just too happy to fill with whatever crap they could produce. At the end of a series of circumstances, I ended up receiving emails and letters from fans all over the world telling me how they’d paid big money for down and outright crap. So we began to produce our own merchandise. Not for the profit, because we always kept as low prices as possible, but as a service to our loyal hordes.

The same story can be used to describe the talks about an official BATHORY homepage. For a great number of years – not reading the metal press myself – I was used to receive letters from fans telling me about something on BATHORY published in either a local fanzine or a widely distributed magazine. The article as such – usually enclosed with the letter as a photocopy and frequently translated by the fan – would consist mostly of either the obviously incorrect or hard-to-believe stuff. It took a lot of my time to personally answer each and every one of the worried fans that wrote me. I assured them that either this or that detail in the articles was either an assumption made by the journalist or a rumor he might have picked up down his local favorite gay bar.

In the past handful of years however, with the arrival of hundreds of metal sites on the web, the scene was repeated. Fans would begin to email me about something they’d read on a website, asking me if this or that was true. They’d normally enclose a link allowing me to check various sites up for the degree of truth in what the site had down as their version of the history of BATHORY. To this day, I can not claim to have seen even one so-called BATHORY-biography on the web that was even remotely close to accurate. The most horrifying examples would contain up to 99% inaccurate information, vicious lies, malevolent rumors, irrelevant bullshit and utter crap.

I couldn’t have cared less myself personally. But just imagining the number of fans that at any given moment could unsuspectingly read and perhaps believe these sites, made me appalled. It literally tore my heart out just contemplating the number of people who might just have thrown a quick eye on these false biographies and taken what they had just read for the truth.

I must have written up to a hundred emails – asking the folks responsible for a site – to contemplate dropping me an email just once with any questions they might have regarding BATHORY. I assured them that I’d be all ears and that I’d truthfully answer anything they could possibly come up with. All in an effort to try and set the record straight and to serve both the BATHORY fans and the rest of the people who might visit their site.

Sometimes I would judge a particular case as nothing other than lack of knowledge on their part and I would go easy on them. Other times, I sensed a more vicious tone in the way they’d handle the history of BATHORY. The details brought up as facts – apart from being inaccurate – had nothing to do with music and such a huge portion of their BATHORY story seemed to have been written with the sole intent to do nothing but harm.

Somebody once said: in order to make room for the new Gods you’re gonna have to kill off some of the old Gods. BATHORY has indeed been labeled as pioneers, masters and Gods alike by an entire scene for almost two decades. I could live with the epithet “pioneer” or even “master”, that’s just a telltale sign of the impact and importance your music has had on millions of people around the world over a period of two decades. I was never was too comfortable with that “God” thing, though. But there might be some truth in that “killing the old Gods off” phrase.

By the time the second generation of extreme metal bands of various styles – highly influenced by BATHORY – began to release their first couple of albums in the mid 90’s, it was high time to consider BATHORY as old Gods indeed. Along with that came an attitude that said it was justifiable – even expected – to cut BATHORY by the ankles in any way and for any reason. Along with that change in attitude came a new way to write about BATHORY.

While the fan mail received would still be full of praise and hails, only very few times in the past ten years roughly would I encounter a fanzine, magazine or a webzine that approached the subject of BATHORY without a grin or a poorly hidden smirk. I tried very hard to find out why. Only recently did I find out how people would talk behind doors and in closed circuits at release parties, in beer tents during festivals and up the editorial domains. A few acquaintances – occasionally active within the metal media in Europe – informed me how it would even be indulged to bad mouth BATHORY and myself personally as much as possible. This would not only spread an ugly atmosphere but in the end also harm the relationship between BATHORY and our audience, since most of what our audience got to read would be this malevolent bullshit and incorrect crap.

This explained for the change of tone in the way some media would write about BATHORY. Reviews would very seldom be about the music at all. Interviews would be full of instances where words had been put into my mouth. Things that I had actually said would some times be twisted around to such a degree you couldn’t blame all of that on language problems or a bad telephone line. And both malicious and sarcastic comments slid in by the journalist or even the editorials would either end every second passage or even make up the headline.

I would occasionally tell a journalist at the end of an interview how much I thought his questions had been way off the only relevant issue: the music. And I would be frank about my feelings for the media in general. I’d be open about how I thought the big magazines were less about the music and more about fashion. I couldn’t have cared less when people told me I should perhaps not be so outspoken. I wasn’t a twenty-year old newcomer to the scene. I did not nourish dreams of top reviews and spreads in their glossy magazines. I had done all that and more.

I wasn’t asking for unconditional praise and hails from the media. All I asked for was an objective approach to music beyond fashion and trends. I couldn’t care less if Nu Metal was the flavor of the month or if Gothic was considered hotter than retro-spandex-whatever had been the previous month. But I did care when reviews would be nothing but personal insults and when more than half of what went down as my words in interviews had been re-written and twisted around to the point I did not only sound like a retard but would come across as a complete idiot all together.

Frank or not frank about my thoughts and views of the media in general and what went wrong in the way they cover music. Truth is – though – the almost infamous relationship between the media and myself has been horrendously blown out of proportions. Not wanting to make that the main issue whenever I did talk to the fanzines, magazines, webzines or radio stations, I decided that enough was enough. I didn’t want to push the focus away from the music any further than what was the case already.

The very positive response from the fans that wrote or emailed me was proof enough that I had made my point and reached out. I knew I had stirred some shit around and made people think. But there was still some work to be done in terms of offering the many webzines out there a direct link to correct information, cold facts and the answers to any questions they might have regarding BATHORY. Thus, I would spend all that time emailing webzines to inform them of the vast portion of misinformation they had down as their version of the BATHORY history.

To this day, less than a handful of the close to a hundred folks I’d email actually did reply. Most of them would say they were indeed sorry and went on to claim they of course agreed with me totally in that they of course should have contemplated spending two minutes of their lives to write me that email. Others would come back saying things like “…tough luck…” or “…that’s life…”, displaying a total disrespect towards the unfortunate people who might just happen to end up with their website on their screens.

The way these people would deliberately neglect the chance to get the facts straight from me, the way they chose to ignore the opportunity to ask me that one question they’d always wanted to know the answer to, and the way the couldn’t be bothered with the level of misinformation on their website, was a frightening experience.

If these hemorrhoids were the last instance, if people like these had the tools and position to reach out to the audience of all act’s, and to deliver their crap to readers in general and fans especially, then the whole web-culture really needed a clean-up. If their lack of judgment, lack of care and lack of professionalism really shaped peoples image of something that had been the biggest part of my life and my creation for the past twenty years, my prayers could only be with the unsuspecting fans.

It was around this time that I realized only an official BATHORY website would sort the problem out. With an official site on the web, there would be a place where fans especially and people in general could go for the plain truth, the correct story, the hard facts, the accurate information and even the stuff no journalist even bothered to ask. Never again would a journalist, a web editor or a general hemorrhoid be able to claim lack of accessible or official information as an excuse for the vicious lies, malicious misinformation, malevolent rumors, irrelevant bullshit and utter crap they’d consistently brought up when writing about BATHORY. Thus the decision was made to create bathory.nu.

Still remembering the harsh response to some of the stories and details brought up in the BLOOD ON ICE-CD booklet, there was still some reluctance lurking in the back of our minds. Would bathory.nu be met in a similar fashion? Could the response be the same this time around? A golden opportunity to get the answer to that would be the release of the twin saga NORDLAND.

We decided to create a long web article and feature that on blackmark.net simultaneously with the release of NORDLAND I. The article would be about the NORDLAND-saga specifically and the BATHORY history generally. At the end of that article, we asked you the fans to contribute in making part of the NORDLAND II web article a forum for the BATHORY Hordes. We asked you the fans to send us your questions for a selection we called The Fans Asks The Questions or the FAQ-section.

The response was overwhelming. We received well over a thousand emails. And although there simply wasn’t enough time to allow for all emails to make it to the FAQ-section, great care was taken to try and answer as many questions as possible with a personal email. Once the NORDLAND web article part two hit the net around the release of NORDLAND II, and the response was that of praise and hails, we realized then that the time was ripe for bathory.nu.

We hope that bathory.nu will be an interesting spot on the web for all of you. We hope that you will trust bathory.nu as the home to all BATHORY fans. We hope that you will think of bathory.nu as the place to go in order to get the news on BATHORY.

We hope that when you come here to get an insight into two decades of extreme metal history, you will get what you came for. Whether you are looking for a specific detail from the past or want to read about a special phase in BATHORY history, we hope to be able to serve you with all the facts you want. And when you want to read the story seldom told, the answer to the question rarely asked, this will be the site for you.

If you are dead tired of the garbage delivered by your favorite metal magazines, then bathory.nu is the place for you. We trust that we will be able to serve you all the behind-the-scenes details and inside stories. You can always trust on bathory.nu. for the correct, true, accurate and honest history of BATHORY.

I have been told this site will be updated and expand further down the road. Yet should there be anything that you feel we have missed or should there be an issue you feel we didn’t expand on enough, hesitate not to drop us an email anytime and we’ll try to incorporate whatever the issue when up-dating the site. And similarly, should there be anything at all that you would like to share with us and the BATHORY HORDES around the world, hesitate not to drop us any jpeg’s or scanned items.

So for now, please enjoy bathory.nu and stand proud brothers and sisters……

Hail the Hordes!

The Wandering of Knight And Death

We walk stony roads
Toward the great calling.
Our hardened fists grip
The flagpole tighter.

Our wandering has already lasted for years.
Our temples have become gray in the twilight.
In the rhythm of the stride we feel the miraculous strength
Of our blood.

The sacred yearning of the heart looks toward the north
And hopes for the revelation of light.
Aside from the calling of our courage
We hear nothing

The call is like a trumpet signal and
God's cloud.

It drives us through chaos and order toward fate.
We are the lost band in the folk,
We bands of the future.
We do not worry about the day of battle

We do not fear the valley of death.
We stride through the silence of the night
Toward the gateway of fulfillment.
There we lower the assault flags
And inhale the morning air.
In our heart the presentiment congeals into a certainty
That freedom lies behind the gateway.
With our fists we tear down the beams

So that rays of light penetrate the night.
And when the pure sun greets our flags
Our path to eternity is finished.
When our brothers sing freedom songs
Our fate has completed itself.

About The Forest and Its Importance - PART I

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."

The Historic Mission of The Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium)

"In the Eastern Empire the Mediterranneans were the predominant factor under guise of Byzantine Greeks. Owing to the fact that our histories have been written under the influence of Roman orthodoxy and because in the eyes of the Frankish Crusaders the Byzantine Greeks were heretics, they have been regarded by us as degenerate cowards.

(Clash between Byzantines and Arabs at the Battle of Lalakaon (863))

But throughout the Middle ages Byzantium represented in unbroken sequence the Empire of Rome in the East and as the capital of that Empire it held Mohammedan Asia in check for nearly a thousand years. When at last in 1453 the imperial city deserted by western Christendom was stormed by Ottoman Turks and Constantine, last of Roman Emperors, fell sword in hand there was enacted one of the greatest tragedies of all time.
With the Fall of Constantinople the Empire of Rome passes finally from the scene of history and developement of civilization is transferred from the Mediterranean lands and from the Mediterranean race to the North Sea and to the Nordic race."

The Daily Life of a Young Painter in Vienna

 Vienna, Austria 1913

"As a rule he did one painting a day. In the morning he sketched it out; after lunch he coloured it. Most pictures were roughly 35 x 45 cm (14in. x 16in.) and were almost invariably Viennese scenes. Most often it was the Charles Church that he draw or scenes from Old Vienna and the old Vienna Naschmarkt. I recall that he would often do especially seleable sudjects a dozen times, one after the other.

Whether these pictures can be regarded as works of art, I do not know... When a picture was finished and we all said how much we admired it, he would often say disparagingly that he was only a dilettante and that he had yet to learn to paint. But his works could not have been bad because otherwise they would never have sold as well as they did since dealers were even then not in the charity business. "

Music From Northern Mountains

Cold & Desolate Ambient soundcscapes influenced by the Norwegians mountains.

"Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau (Norwegian: vidde) in central southern Norway, covering parts of Vestland, Vestfold og Telemark, and Viken counties. It is the largest plateau of its kind in Europe, with a cold year-round alpine climate, and one of Norway's largest glaciers, Hardangerjøkulen, is situated here."

The Mythical Past - The Present's Guide for The Future

 "Leonidas"

By

Alexandre-Evariste Fragonard (1780-1850)

A highly symbolical painting by French painter Alexandre Evariste Fragonard (more info about him here ).

At the cenotaph of King Leonidas of Sparta at Thermopylae, a Greek warrior (dressing as the classic 1821 Greeks revolutionaries who fought against the Turks) preparing his arms. A spear, a bow and the sword. At the same time his layed his sleeping child upon the cenotaph.

Three ages in one painting:

The past, the present , the future.

The Afghan Campaign

I saw the last days in the news, the taliban marching to the Afghan capital of Cabul. Before that, one town after the other were falling without resistance under their control and now even USA, RUSSIA, CHINA etc are negotiating with them.
As it seems, after 20 years and the waste of billions of dollars, about 2500 soldiers dead and plenty of civilians wounded etc The modern rainbow "west" failed again to control the territory and eliminitate (or at hold back) one of its enemies. What did it gone wrong? Simply, the West as we know  from history is not west anymore. Since decades now she had abandonded the values found upon.

Speaking of the real West, it bringed to my mind the book "The Afghan Campaign"

"A novel about Alexander the Great’s three-year campaign in the Afghan kingdoms, 330-328 BCE. A dead ringer for the U.S.’s war in the same deserts and mountains, still going on today."

The Afghan Campaign is a historic novel written by Steven Pressfield (Also writter of other succesful historic novel such as The Gates of Fire, The Tides of War etc).
The story takes place in the same lands of Aghanistan but in 330 bc. In the times of Alexander The Great. Its a story narrated by soldier of Macedonian army.

As it based upon real historical facts but the major difference is that here we are talking about the real western army and imperialist values of the Ancient world and not the modern these degenerates lead by traitors and puppets of their shadow masters.

As it seems, not much have changed since the days of Alexander The Great's passing through this regions. So for anyone intrested, the book gives good insight of how war is done there and also various conflicts with different tribes, warlords, leaders etc

For more info on the Novel's plot see HERE and HERE

As for the future in the modern Afghanistan, this gonna bring a change in global geopolitics or a new day for the country that will control amongst other the rare metals, production of opium etc

Things will be more clear in the next months....
